Re: AD/OD : Migration from an existing AD to OD

We essentially use file access and authentification.
This is working well on 10.5 ( and lower ).

The file server data will be moved to a new SAN based on mac

I think we don't use more AD feature

I would not get rid of my AD servers if you are in a large environment as I do not think you would have a method of managing your Windows boxes with OD and that will be important if you are in a large environment.

One alternative would be to leverage SUSE Enterprise Linux (http://www.novell.com/linux/) and their management tools for Windows clients. You would then 'tie' the OD and NDS environments together. I am not sure if that will lower your costs or not.

Also NTFS rights will not 'transfer', to my knowledge, to HFS+ or AFP. User passwords will also not transfer in most cases between two LDAP implementations.

Hi,

1. Yes, we would like to stop using Windows
2. Both, but mainly Windows. The OS X server i currently connected to the AD for credentials
3. They will still be Windows clients ( 95% ) and some Mac clients ( 5% ). Actually Windows clients can use OS X file servers using AD

A couple of questions:

1.  Are you moving your entire AD to OD?
2.  Are your file servers currently Windows or OS X?
3.  Are all of your client computers going to be OS X?
