... because Apple OS X Server is far more than hardware or just the DNS component of software. For the most part, a lot of nifty functionality is provided in an easy to admin/use way.


I can get HP 1U servers that are, in EVERY way, the equal of Xserves for
*half* the price. I can, on those servers, with full support from HP mind
you, run a utility OS that will be patched MONTHS ahead of Mac OS X for
stuff like this.

Name your Utility OS.

What's worse, a copout, or wasting company money when there are better
choices?


To say that having to compile and install BIND on your own as justification for choosing another server platform is not being realistic. It's not a question of wasting money or time. Really. You'll spend more time in the long haul on a Linux box trying to get all the various components to work together and remain in sync.
