I would like to alert the server admins out there, that on the client side of 10.7, a number of users in the consumer forums are seeing a bug which seems to corrupt or erase the .DS_Store file in a directory, and another possibly related bug that corrupts files on rename. I have experienced these myself and have been especially frustrated at my folders losing their arrangements seemingly at random.
For example, if you set a folder to icon view, and to always open that way, then rearrange the icons as you like them to appear, at some point later on, the settings are lost and the icons default to alphabetical. This seems to occur when saving into that folder, or into one that is enclosed by that folder.
More frightening than that, and possibly related, a user discovered this issue: A file is saved someplace like the desktop. Allow a period of time to pass (like 10 minutes or more), then change the file name, so that you alter just the case of just one character. The file instantly turns to zero bytes. It is reported to also occur using mv. This does not occur if the file is renamed immediately. The problem also doesn't necessarily occur all the time after time has passed. The problem is independent of the use of FileVault2 encryption, or lack therof.
One idea is that it's the same bug, and the .DS_Store is being zero'd and replaced with system defaults, when it is touched by a save operation.
Here is the thread where this is being discussed:

I have filed separate bugs on the folder rearranging issue (9952254) and the rename problem (9953467).
Might want to slow down those upgrades!
