Why would you choose modify? (Well, I know it's longer;).)

:-)

Altering something means making some changes but it doesn't really have the connotation of making additions.

OTOH, modifying something means making changes including making additions.

The best term would probably customisation. Trouble is that it is again a word which comes in two spelling flavours: "customize" and "customise".

PUBLIC TO MODULE seems to be a pretty stratithforward solution.

We had discussed this but found it to be ambiguous, because modules can be nested ad infinitum in M2 and the class definition itself is also a module. This creates an uncertainty as to which module is meant.

I think we're getting into details here and that this should rather go to a ObjM2-specific mailing list.

Indeed.

Are there any plans to start such a list?

We do have an ObjM2 mailing list, which is what we use to discuss the design issues. At this stage it is by invitation only, but if you are interested to participate in the discussion, you are welcome to join. Feedback from ObjC developers is certainly helpful.
