The name resolver that Apple is using in OS X is much worse than the one

It's not only slow, but incorrect. Try visiting my company's web site in Internet Explorer on Mac OS X. I dare you. Try to go to <http://bDistributed.com/>. You can't.

This is because Mac OS X does not properly implement DNS lookups and so will *fail* a lookup that isn't all lowercase even though DNS is case-insensitive. I reported this as soon as I discovered it in the Mac OS X "release candidate" and hoped it would be fixed for release. This issue has also been discussed on some Mac news sites; it's been described as a lookupd bug.

This bug is RADAR #2659346, originated 3/11. As of Mac OS X 10.0.3 it still hasn't been fixed.

What makes me especially annoyed is that this bug wasn't in the Public Beta. If Apple had run a *real* seeding program for Mac OS X, this would have been caught within a couple weeks of when it was introduced...
