Realistically anything that touches hardware directly such as serial ports cannot be easily supported in Carbon. That said MacOS X does have a set of serial port API's which are fairly close to the posix serial API's. In fact the serial api's on X makes porting much of the posix serial code out there as simple as changing the target in a makefile. DTS has sample code on how to find and access the serial ports on X.
