Hi Paul,
What I can understand from your mails is that you are talking about
CUPS backend.Pls correct me if I am wrong.
I don't know much about the CUPS backends . Could you please
elaborate how to create the backends and in what way to send the font query
?
If possible could you please send me some sample which queries the
printer and how the carbon application interfaces with it to collect the
output.
Many thanks for all your help._______________________________________________

Deepak,
If you want to use the printing system for this purpose, your code can
exec the pap backend, using the standard pipes to send the font query
to the printer and retrieve the results.

Subject: Getting fonts available on printer.
Hi All,
I am facing the following problem.
Actually what I want to do is to connect to the printer
directly and the query the printer to get the list of fonts available
on the
printer.
Before MAC OS X there was 'PAPA' resource using which we can
get the printer name and other info and a LWDF (Laserwriter) resource
which
had
the functions (in Hexdecimal form) which were equivalent to
the PAP client interface. We used to use these function pointers to
communicate with the
printer. Now that 'PAPA' resource is not supported on OS X
and not even aware of the fact if there is some updated PAP client
available
I am trying to implement the functionality of what was
using that interface. I opted to use the PAP using Open Transport. Butsupported in
came
to know later that pap endpoints are no longer
carbon._______________________________________________
Can any body please help me what all to use to get the list
of fonts available at the printer. It is not specific to any printer.
thnx & rgds
