Re: paper sizes

Bret,

No, a printer driver cannot force the Page Setup dialog to pick a default paper size. We recognize this is an issue when a user prints to only one printer, and that printer cannot handle one of Any Printer's paper sizes. In Radar there is already a bug to find a solution (2889461) and of course we're open to suggestions.

I have a printer that does not support US Letter paper. It is a small, portable device used for printing 4x6 in. and similar photos. I add the printer to Print Center and perform a Page Setup from TextEdit. The "Format for:" menu has "Any Printer" selected and the paper size is automatically set to 8.5 x 11. When I choose my printer via the "Format For" menu, an item titled "Other" is appended to the "Paper Size" menu and the 8.5 x 11 paper size remains an option.

I'm running a north american English version of 10.2.6 but I can envision this problem existing with this printer for European and Asian versions of the OS as A4 and other larger standard paper sizes are also not supported by the device.

Is there a way for me to override this behavior with my driver?
