Printers Disappearing

On a new G4 dual 1.25 with OS 10.2.3, my printers keep disappearing. The only one that usually shows up is the HP 5100, but I can add my digital platesetter channels, Splash (Doc 40), etc. back, and then a few days later, notice that their gone. This computer in general is acting very wierd, such as taking 3 years to load MS Word, hanging on logout/restart, and accessing files. Any advice short of format and resinstall would be nice, but hey, if its what I need to do, thats what I'll do.
