Re: Raster Driver Color Correction and Dithering

Roger,

Documentation for using the cupsICCProfile keyword is being prepared. In the mean time, here is a brief description:

The format of the *cupsICCProfile entry is

*cupsICCProfile ColorModel.MediaType.Resolution/Mode: <profile location>

where ColorModel is one of your PPD's ColorModel option values, MediaType is one of the available MediaType option values and Resolution is one of the available resolutions. Mode is a human-readable string that will appear in the ColorSync Utility. And profile location is either an absolute or relative path to the icc file. Here are a few examples:

*cupsICCProfile ../Gray Profile: "/Library/Printers/Test/Profiles/Test Gray Profile.icc"

specifies a single profile for all possible ColorModel, MediaType and Resolution values, with an absolute path to the profile.

*cupsICCProfile ../Gray Profile: "Test Gray Profile.icc"

specifies a profile located in /Library/Printers/vendor/ where 'vendor' is the *Manufacturer name from the PPD file.

*cupsICCProfile CMYK.Photo.600x600dpi/LoRes Photo CMYK Profile: "LoRes Photo CMYK Profile.icc"

specifies a CMYK profile for when the selected ColorModel is CMYK, printing to a MediaType called "Photo" and at "600x600dpi" Resolution mode.

Please start with this information and ask me more questions if you need additional help. The ColorSync Utility is the best tool to verify that your printer profiles have been correctly registered.

Correct. In Panther you can specify the printer profile to be used for
any combination of ColorModel, MediaType and Resolution, using
cupsICCProfile keywords in your PPD file. In Jaguar you get the
Generic RGB profile and there's no way to override that.

I haven't found any documentation on this. Can you either point to something that explains the Apple extensions to CUPS PPDs, or explain the syntax of using the cupsICCProfile keyword(s).

Thanks.
