Re: Panther, Color Profiles and lpadmin

Roger,

Instead of lpadmin, use makequeues. makequeues can be found in the PrinterNotifications bundle, in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/. Like lpadmin, makequeues takes a -v argument for the device uri. Use -d to specify your printer's PPD path.

During install of my CUPS driver, in my "postflight" script, I have the command

/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p FooPrinter -v $uri -P /usr/share/cups/model/FooPrinter.ppd -E

While this adds the printer, it doesn't appear to correctly link to the Color Profile linked to in the PPD. If I delete the printer and add it manually using the Printer Setup Utility, the Color Profile is found. (I base these observations on differences in output between the different install methods, as well as the ColorSync icon in Printer Setup Utility being grayed out when using lpadmin method of adding the printer).

Is this a known shortcoming of lpadmin, and is there a way to correctly script adding a printer that I can utilize in my installer "postflight" script?
