Required values in a PDE

Is there a way to require user input into a PDE?

The fax printer simply displays an error message when the user has failed to
provide a phone number.

It would be better if the "print" button didn't become enabled until after
all PDEs say that they have all of the information which they need (of those
which supply the added interface). For some values there simply is no
acceptable default.

Is there a way to do this?

If not, can we get it added for 10.3.1?

The UI could change the "print" button to a "next" button which advances
through the PDEs until they all are satisfied, then the "next" button would
change to "print" again. If the user wants to pick the PDEs out of the menu
that would be okay. Unsatisfied PDEs could show up with some sort of marker
in the menu.


Thoughts?

MOST IMPORTANTLY -- better workarounds for now than telling the user to
print again?
