I am still working on this as the priority decreased again and I ran
into some problems.
The problem is that the appropriate filter (rastertodymo) is supposed
to talk to the printer, but it does so in one of three modes: EPL line
mode, EPL page mode or ZPL. So long everything sounds good, as the
printer is known to be capable of understanding at least EPL. But the
image data is sent to the printer with either the "g" command (draw
graphics, line mode) or GW (direct graphic write, page mode). But
unfortunately, these commands are not recognized by my version of the
printer.
As I already wrote a driver for that printer for OS 9, I am about to
re-do the proven workaround of creating a complete temporary bitmap
image file that finally gets sent to the printer. It won't win an
award, but it should fulfill our needs.

About a month and a half ago, Michael Plagge was working on a project
to get a Mac running 10.3.9 to print to a Zebra LP2844 via usb. I read
the thread, and he appears to have done it successfully.
I've come across one of those printers that used to be used to print
FedEx labels, and I'd like to use it on my Mac, too. Is the .ppd file
"zebrax.ppd" published anywhere, and if so, where could I get it?
Also, is there anything else besides copying it into the
/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/ that I'd need to
do to have the Mac see the printer correctly?
Many thanks!
