Re: USB Printing Architecture for vendor specific usb parallel printer device

Generally, bi-directional backends provide for a better user experience. But, as you've probably deduced from reading the CUPS documentation and sample code, there's no requirement that read be implemented in your backend. You should implement a unique URI, and not reuse the "usb:" schema that Apple's backend uses.

Good luck.

Is it mandatory to implement the read functionality in the backend?.
Is it printer server or printer module expects data ( read data ) from the parallel printer device?
Is there anysettings in the Mac OS to disable bi-directional support for the parallel port like Microsoft Windows? (i.e. To disable the reads from the device ).
