under Mac OS X 10.3 there used to be the option of printing to a PostScript file what I think was provided by the Printing System.

Now, with Tiger, this option has disappeared. Although there seems to be some equivalent under the PDF drop-down menu (something like "Save PDF as Postscript..."), this option seems not to provide the same PostScript purity that was known from Panther.

The functionality that used to be in the Output Options panel for saving to PostScript has simply been moved to the menu item you've identified.

There is no difference in functionality, at least there is none that was intended. Of course we do make various changes to the PostScript generation from release to release but I would not put those changes into the category of "PostScript purity".

If you are seeing substantive differences in the PostScript output between Tiger and Panther that you consider problematic, I urge you to submit detailed bug reports via the usual mechanisms.
