Re: Can you debug iTunes Plugins in PB?

This has nothing to do with haxies, that's a red herring.

iTunes isn't debuggable because it calls ptrace to disable debugging. It has a DRM solution, after all, and being able to debug it would be a good start at cracking their DRM. Have a look at <sys/ptrace.h> for the selector PT_DENY_ATTACH. Just try debugging iTunes even with no plug-ins installed: GDB segfaults.

Hi All,

I'm trying to debug an iTunes Visual Plugin using Project Builder 2.0.1. I've added iTunes as an executable but when I start debugging, the message "Program exited with status value 45" appears at the bottom of the window. I looked up status value 45 in errno.h and the comment says it means "Operation Not Supported".

Is it possible to debug an iTunes plugin with Project Builder? If so, does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

I've also tried using gdb to debug the plugin but after I attach to the process and try to step through it, I get this error message "segmentation fault".

Thanks,
David
