frame delay

At WWDC I saw a demo that took a movie and played it through a stack of sprites, but each sprite was one frame behind the other, so it looked like the movie flowed through the stack (I think this was at the QuickTime & Digital Media State of the Union session). Is it possible to achieve this effect just by using QC? I've tried playing around with accumulators but I can't seem to get it, they're still all in sync, is there some clear way to do this that I'm missing?
