Here's the steps I took to test so far:
1. Tested keyboard with Max/MSP, it works.
2. Restarted Quartz Composer with an empty composition.
3. Dropped in "MIDI Controllers" patch and opened its Inspector Settings.
4. Enabled my MIDI Controller with a checkbox and checked channels 1 & 2 so they are white and not grey.

it's the contrary: gray means selected and white not selected :)
