question about .qtz in Quicktime...

I'm quickly mocking up a proof-of-concept application using .qtz files but using (cough) Director for the playback shell for the moment (my obj-c skills are not too extensive for what I want this to do, though the final application will be obj-c).

Is there any way that one could communicate with QuickTime to set some of the aspects of a QuarzComposer file? Say for example it's a simple slideshow of a directory of images; would there be any way that communication with Quicktime would be able to speak to the QC layer and have it repoint to a new directory on the fly?

Past that, for the true application, is there ways in which I could create a QC file that has certain parameters that could be made 'public' and seen by a host application for editing? Much like the above example?
