It really looks like as if no enough VRAM was left for Quartz Composer. Try quitting all other running programs and make sure you don't have any external screen connected to your laptop, then relaunch QC and see if that still happens.

I've killed everything but mail and Finder, and got it to happen again. The thing I'm most curious about it why does reloading it correct the problem. Clearly, if it works the second time, it must have had enough VRAM to render.


Where would I find messages saying that I was running out of VRAM?
