If you went back to the original message and followed the rest of the thread, he was actually looking for an official, documented way of creating iMovie effects purely using QC compositions.
You asked about the official supported way to make it work, not to make YOUR way work - YMMV.
File an enhancement request at bugreport.apple.com.
Actually, I wasn't the original poster. Also, I had already told him that the only official way was to write a plug-in. Since creating a .qtz on his own isn't working, he'll have to play with it until it does, without documentation. And he could also file an enhancement request.
Anyway, as I guess iLive ยด07 is somewhere around the corner, I doubt you'll see anything like that before iMovie 8 even if it's honored.
Very likely.
Being a long-time Mac advocate, I think it SHOULD be done as an end-user enhancement for iMovie. It's certainly not something *I* need at the present time.
My -guess- as to why there is no documentation is that iMovie is considered an entry level product. Thus iMovie end users are highly likely to be comfortable using the built-in effects as is or buying a third party effects package, rather than trying to roll their own. Another possibility is that they simply don't think that adding to the built-in stock of compositions is something that anyone would want to do.
As has been mentioned before, if you feel strongly, file an enhancement request. That's the only way that these sorts of things are tracked. Grousing about it in this forum doesn't put it on anybody's to-do list.
No doubt you're correct. However, rummaging through trash bins for other people's garbage is a time-honored way of making breakthrough scientific discoveries. Likewise, paying attention to grousing in public forums probably yields at least as accurate a feel for what the public really wants as using focus groups...
