Ok, I had overlooked Folder Images. This is the place to start.

I apologise on advance for the selfish nature of this request.
I'm working on a film where we had to make a Filemaker database
with a single still image of every camera setup (slate). In the
process of doing this I was able to make a sequence in the NLE
which had a single frame from every slate in scene order. When you
watch it at film speed (24fps) it looks very cool.
However I would much rather put it into some form of interactive
space where the images could float and scroll by, perhaps move
round them in 3D using the mouse and have music effect their
movement. This is purely for fun!
A tall order for sure and to add to this there are a total of 550
images I want to use. Common sense tells me I could only really
achieve the display in something like After Effects, but then I
loose the interactive part. Perhaps Flash? I get the feeling that
would handle that number of images quite poorly too.
So, just to throw it out there, could I create a QC which could
access all 550 JPEG images and animate them interactively? From
what I know the Image Importer can only access one image at a time
so I would need to create 550 of these. It seems more likely I
would need to do it programmatically.
