Writing image units - more documentation?

I've been plugging away at writing image units for some time, and although I've gotten a few to work now, it was really tough going because of important information that did not seem to be covered in any documentation.

- it seems that, for input parameters to show up as inputs in Quartz Composer patches, the names of the corresponding instance variables must start with 'input'. I lost some ridiculous amount of time before I realized this... is this in fact documented somewhere? I ask because of a vague feeling that I still must be missing some key documentation. Ok so instance variables in example code generally do use the 'input' prefix, but it never says you 'have' to use these. Somewhere it would be nice to see a summary of such variable naming conventions.

- where is the full set of methods that a filter class may or must implement? Examples of the ones that are mentioned in the documentation and sample code include -customAttributes and - outputImage. Where are these declared? Where can I find the full list of these?

- (I actually just sent an a separate email on this topic, but I'll mention the lack of documentation here) where is the documentation on how to include a custom user interface in an image unit, so that it will show up in QC patches? There is vague mention in the Core Image docs where CIHasCustomInterface is covered of the fact that the host will provide a view, but how do I get a view I create in a nib file loaded into this view?

Of course I should also file a bug just asking for more documentation, but want to make sure I'm not missing something before I do so.

I've found Quartz Composer to be very powerful, and I quite like the architecture, but developing stuff has been kind of painful due to lack of documentation.

Thanks in advance,

Rick
