Re: QT6 & MPEG4

Not wishing to start any flames.

But I do not own the device, and the device cost around 350 UK pounds, and I
have asked if I could try it and return it, if it doesn't work, but they
have declined, so its a little expensive just to purchase to see and to
write off if it doesn't as I want it work from a Mac.

I have emailed Archos who sent me the text

<snip>
The JBMM supports MPEG4 Simple Profile, CIF resolution (352x288 pixels) @ 30
frames sec. The JBMM will play DivX encoded movies UP TO CIF resolution. A
lot of DivX movies are encoded at full DVD resolution, and will not play on
the JBMM at the encoded resolution and frame rate. You will need to convert
these files with VirtualDub. Instructions can be found here.
CIF stands for Common Interchange Format for digital video. CIF resolution
is 352x288 pixels, and is considered by the industry to be VHF quality.
(What you see on a VCR).
</snip>

Which wasn't much help at all, as I guess is extracted from their manual.
And they cannot try what I ask.

I was hoping that maybe the QuickTime engineers, could give a Simple Yes &
No, as they have been working with MPEG-4 and know about. As we always hear
from Steve Jobs presentations that MPEG consortium wanted to use the
QuickTime file format for MPEG-4 blah ..blah ... MPEG-4 the next big thing
..blah ..blah

I also do work in the Software engineer field and so I am using a little
investigation, then just jumping blindly and purchasing it, so at least my
decision is based on something.

I hope now that you understand my question and why I was asking.

Thanks
Mark.
