Nope, this isn't correct.

What *is* correct is that when a track is an input to an effect is
cannot also be displayed on its own as a "normal" track. So, you have
to have A and B source tracks for the effect. But you can have any
number of different effects along that track to switch from A to B and
back again -- each effect applies for the duration of the sample which
you give it.

Most folks end up constructing a movie with one track per source, plus a
A and B plus one track holding all effects.
