Slow download from FireWire camera

Hello

and sorry for this off topic question, but you could know the answer.

What could be the cause of slow download in OS X? I tried the same in OS 9 and it worked 5 times faster! Jaguar downloads at ~ 300KB/sec while OS 9 downloads at 1.5MB/sec. Is something wrong with the FireWire driver?
