patching iChat

Hello,

I would like to patch iChat to add a custom video filter. So far, I have written a Quicktime component that can apply such a filter, and I found how to patch iChat so that I can virtually catch and customize every function call.
The last step for my project would be to insert either my filter algorithm, or directly the Quicktime component, to the data flow. However, I have absolutely no idea where to do that.
Perhaps the cleanest way to do would be to use my Quicktime component, but I really have a bad knowledge of how QT works. I managed to write this component only using "quick and dirty" sample code from apple, and with much pain. Now, I am totally stuck. So, how can I tell the webcam to apply a filter ? Can I do that directly ? I don't have any precise question, since I do not very well what I am talking about...
