How would one go about determining the correct pixel format to use in QTNewGWorld in runtime?

I am working on some code to compress frames and write a movie to disk. The user of this code may choose any available codec on the system (including 3rd party codecs). I need some way of knowing how to create the GWorld I need to use for my compression sequence.

I've done a lot of looking around, but haven't found anytime online relating to this specific problem, although there are documents relating to specific settings for specific codecs.

Is there a way to do this?
