this behaviour is more useful if you are doing complex edits - no media samples are duplicated, so the "edited" movie is much smaller etc.

what you want to do is save the movie you have so far as "flattened" aka "self-contained" - if you wish to change the sample format, you'll have to "export" it.

no gui is required to save the movie in its current format but with the media samples in the same container - the keyword "flattened" should find the right api documentation.
