MovieProgressUPP return values

I am using a MovieProgressProc with LoadMovieIntoRam. I would like to be able to abort this operation, but when I return an OSErr != noErr from the MovieProgressProc (for instance, userCanceledErr or anything), the process simply continues, as though nothing happened. Is there some trick, or is this a bug? I believe that this has been the case since at least QuickTime 6, although I'm working in QT7.
