Thread-topic: Play QuickTime in Windows Media Player ?
Hi:
It's been ages since I've done anything in this arena, but assuming you
want to allow a user to just play a QuickTime file using Windows Media
Player, the place to start is "Writing DirectShow Filters" on the MSDN
website
(http://windowssdk.msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/e
n-us/directshow/htm/writingdirectshowfilters.asp). That will explain how
you can develop codecs (as DirectShow filters) for Windows Media Player.
As for an ActiveX control, Apple has the COM/ActiveX controls for
QuickTime 7. I'm actually using it in a primitive app that loads either
the WMP or the QT ActiveX controls based on what was passed on a
command-line. I've also used in C#/.NET runtime, and it seems to be
reliable enough. Documentation on the ActiveX interfaces is a bit scarce
though.

Folks.
We are feeding Quicktime proxies into someone else's PC based
application which is using Windows Media to playback movies.
I wonder if someone who is familiar with the PC Platform could advise
whether there is any way (3rd party plug in?) to play QuickTime (eg
Offline RT PhotoJPEG) using Windows Media PLayer technology.
I see the from microsoft site that it may be possible to play
QuickTime 2.0 movies with windows media player - what exactly does
this mean ? Is it possible for us to make movies which conform to
this 'old' standard ?
Also, this PC system also uses ActiveX to popup a 'handler' for
certain objects which are passed to it. Is it possible to play
QuickTime on a PC using ActiveX? or somehow via explorer with a QT
plug in ?
Sorry to be a little vague, but PCs really are not my thing...:-)
