HTTP movies with a file reference

Folks.

Could someone speculate on what will happen with a quicktime movie included in a web page with an http link, but where the movie is a reference movie pointing to external data files.

Will the movie load up in the browser, then try to resolve the data references (aliases) in the file and require those files to be 'mounted' on the computer playing the movie ? I assume QT will *not* try to get to the referenced files via the web server, or perhaps it will create relative URLs for the referenced files aliases and try that ?

Is there any additional information about how quicktime resolves its aliases - In the past I have struggled to get movies to open where there is an alias link to an external file which has been subsequently moved, or is accessed at a different share point to when the movie was created. Even having QT search often fails. Not sure why. Are there any limitations or guidelines for alias references to files in QT movies ?

Cheers
