How do I crop a movie?

I'd like to do simple (i.e. rectangular) cropping of a movie. What's the best way to go about that? Should I use mattes or clip regions? Is one faster than the other? Better supported? (I notice, for example, that all the QuickDraw region stuff is labeled "deprecated in Mac OS 10.4" in the documentation; should I be worried about that?)

Or is there a more modern way? Or perhaps, since I'm limiting myself to rectangular clipping, a shortcut?
