Quicktime Image Capture from iSight

I am new to this kind of stuff, but have tried to search Apple's page for examples or note on this topic.

Here is what I need to do. I am working on a robotic vision system on a mac. I am familiar with the vision processing side of the project as I have done work on a PC, sadly.

Now, on the mac i need a way to open a session with a camera and capture stills when i need them. I was told that quicktime was the way to do this, but thus far i have seen only examples of sequence grabbing. The trick is that i need to be grabbing the images quickly, ideally one every 100ms or so. I found a small CLI called isightcapture. Works very well for grabbing a single image, but takes too long to initialize and terminate the session every-time i need a picture.

The images i need should be 320 X 240 pixels at the largest with something like a bitmap compression. Again i need as little computation on the conversion of the image as to increase the sampling rate of the vision system.

If i have over-looked something on Apple's site or if anyone has any adivce, I would greatly appreciate any help.
