Writing to Disk from SGDataProc

Folks.

My app receives video and sound via an SGDataProc, and we write it to disk from inside the SGDataProc.

Although this generally works very well, we do sometimes suffer from dropped frames on slower systems, and when other things kick in.

I wondered if its generally a good idea to move the disk writing outside of the SGDataProc ? Or is it generally the done thing to write from inside the proc ? I know that most video drivers will tolerate a temporary slow down in pulling video frames if something slows down for a bit.

I know that on a coreaudio app we have, we found it necessary to move all the data processing outside of the IOProc because we could miss the next buffer if we took too long. However, I dont think there is any pre-buffer there as there is with SGDataProc so maybe its more important than for SGDataProc

Is it OK to write to disk inside the SGDataProc ? Or should we be doing it as a deferred task ?

Cheers

Mark Gilbert
