Re: QT Pro Export Option

Hi Brad,

I guess video iPOD supports the mov file-format as well. So, if I
export a QuickTime movie file using AAC for audio and H.264 for video
(with frame-reordering turned off ), would I then be able to playback
this on a video iPOD ? Offcourse I would do this within the datarate,
framesize, and framerate specified in the iPOD specs.

I am not able to play such a file on iPOD. Any idea what might I be
missing ? Is it because the QT Movie export using H.264 doesnt let the
user change the H.264 profile and level settings (somethng specific
desired for iPOD) ?

Thank you,
Raman

Frame reordering, or B-frame insertion, is a feature of H.264's Main
profile, but not Baseline. So if you have a video decoder that only
supports h264 baseline, it would not be able to work with frame-
reordered content. Such is the case with the video iPods. So it's
important that compressionists have the "Frame Reordering" choice.
You're right, frame reordering does result in better quality and
smaller files, but it takes longer to encode, and is more decode
intensive.
