Thread-topic: how to register a component manually and automatically inWindows
There is no use of the Windows registry, components only have to be in the folder where QuickTime looks for them. For backward compatibility with older releases of quicktime, it looks in %WINDIR%\system32\QuickTime
For Quicktime 7 and up, the directories seems to have moved in "Program Files\QuickTime\QTComponent" (as per Microsoft's guidance of not dumping stuff in \Windows) - see this new API for information to get the actual directory http://tinyurl.com/flbbl
