Re: QTKitCapture - How to identify DV camera mode?

Hi Bharath.

QTKit attempts to detect whether or not the camera is in VCR or camera mode and will not even make the AVC transport controls attribute available (attributeForKey: will return nil) if it detects that the camera is not in tape mode. However, we are aware of several issues with this functionality that make it unreliable, in part due to the fact that different devices behave differently in their implementations of the protocol. We have a bug tracking these issues and are working to have them resolved in a future QuickTime release. Fortunately, getting and setting the QTCaptureDeviceAVCTransportControlsAttribute should not affect camera operation in unpredictable ways when the camera is in camera mode.

Value for QTCaptureDeviceAVCTransportControlsAttribute returns

Is there any way to identify vcr/camera mode?

Anyone know how does iMovie identifies mode of DV camera?

Any inputs would be greatly helpful

Hello Jaime,

Hey Bharath,

I had missed out the reply to this post :-(

No worries.

How can I identify the mode of Camera with
QTCaptureDeviceAVCTransportControlsAttribute?

I don't have an example in front of me at the moment. However, I
believe you query the QTCaptureDeviceAVCTransportControlsAttribute of
the QTCaptureDevice to get the NSDictionary of control values. Then,
look up the value for the
QTCaptureDeviceAVCTransportControlsPlaybackMode key in the dictionary.

does that make sense?
