DVD Control App Project

Got a new project that'll start in a few days were I need to play a movie
off of a DVD for the user locally and start and stop and control it in
various unique ways that the client has invented.  What QT samples are the
best to start with that show how to have a lot of control over a DVD movie
that is playing from the drive?  Is there any reason not to choose Cocoa for
this; I guess I can always mix (as have done) and include Carbon stuff if
needed.
