People do talk a lot about the quality of codecs on this list but everyone only seems to concentrate on how well the videos look when they play them back from their local disks (correct me if I'm wrong).

Has anyone compared current codecs/technologies on how they behave in lossy networks or how well they scale on different client hardware (complexity scalability) or adapt to changing bandwidth?
