That's one way of seeing it. Another is to accept that 95% of people don't
care or know if the gamma is wrong, but the 5% who use custom profiles
with a gamma other than 1.8/2.5 are getting a poor image, especially
in the highlights (you should see what this does for a b&w animation on a
Mac using 2.2 and 6500K based profile - ouch!).
Well, I think I understand your position, and I hope you can appreciate
mine. Maybe if we all file a request with Apple to make automatic
correction an option (turned on by default), then everyone can be happy.
I wonder too, how a QTVR encoded with MP4 or SV3 with an embedded
custom ICC profile will interact with the auto gamma correction? Anyone
have any experience with this?
