Whats the best solution to optimise performance

I am making an application for TV broadcast using MM Director and QuickTime.
It gonna run on a Dell Poweredge (1800MHz, lotsa RAM, fast disk, only 8MB
RageXL PCI gfx). The video is MPEG-1. When the video plays QuickTime eats
all of Directors resources so that other animations look steppy. I can
either add an extra processor or a beefier PCI gfx card. What do you reckon
I should I do? I would be grateful for any insights.
Julian.
