Would Sorenson 3 video irk the public w/ QT 4x

We get tips on how to improve our internet videos (250 date rate) from time to time and most of them do not pan out. However, someone on this list suggested that replacing Sorenson 2 Pro with Sorenson 3 Pro would result in noticeably improved video. So we bought it and tried it and it works. You can see it, the video is obviously better even at the same data rate. There are a few issues however with introducing the change from S2 to S3 to the public, and we wanted to ask if anyone else had dealt with these.
.
Sorenson 3 Pro requires QT 5.0.2 (not exactly sure, 5 something) for playback. Users with an earlier version get an error message as follows:
.
"You may experience problems playing a video track in "YourMovieName" because the required compressor could not be found. Would you like to close the movie or continue."
.
We assume this is universally true because we get this message when attempting to play the S3 videos with QT 4 and we assume that the early version is the cause of the problem.
.
Anyway, if you click continue, the movie will play with audio only. There are 3 questions:
.
1) Might the user be mistakenly led to believe the movie clip is defective, or the situation uncorrectable in that he/she is not advised to download a later version? This is the thing we fear the most because that user will not come back.
.
2) What percentage have download phobia and would resist for that reason?
.
3) Will the users of an earlier (until now adequate) Pro version, for example QT4.0 Pro, upgrade in light of the requirement of that a new key will need to be purchased?
.
Will the public be generally ok with this? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
