Ok, one more solution...
We set up some inexpensive student edit stations with iMovie, and used the JVC
dual-deck, miniDV/SVHS, SR-VS30V. We like them because not only can you use
them to dub either way, and use them as a miniDV deck with the Mac, but the
analog VHS side also outputs digital video thorugh firewire to iMovie,
Premiere, etc. That way you can digitize from VHS without making a dub. But,
at $825, it's more than a converter box.
There is a less expensive model, the HR-DVS3, but I don't know if it can do
the above.

Subject: want to get started digitizing videos
Hi,
We need to digitize some films that are on VHS. What hardware and software
do I need in order to transfer films from videotape into my Mac G4? Is
there some special kind of interface board that I need that installs into
the G4? Thanks very much.
