3ivx released version 4.5 of their mpeg4 codec.
the first test were really convincing and seem to deliver better
quality than the sorenson3 codec.
please share your experiences.
Regardless, I'm always excited to see an update to DiVA, an excellent
MPEG-1 and -2 decoder... it's fast (much faster than realtime, though
at higher resolutions constrained by disk speed) and supposedly has an
all YUV pipeline (assuming you're targeting a YUV codec).
It's always had some quirks with framerates resulting from material
with 3:2 pulldown, hopefully they've been resolved... otherwise, it's
comparable to Flask or XMPEG on Windows.
As for 3ivx, I'll have to see it myself - fortunately I'm in the middle
of a large update to my internal codec review process, so I'm going to
add it to the mix tonight (though if DiVA is the only tool to offer
2-pass support for 3ivx it'll make it hard to compare directly, as I'm
not using DiVA in my other tests, and DiVA only takes MPEG as source).
