It was actually just a guess, I'm not sure that has anything to do with
it, but it could. 3ivx registers itself so that it takes over decoding
of all MPEG-4 - trumping Apple's MPEG-4 decoder... at least that's how
I've observed it. My assumption was that while this may work fine for
most video (and it does), that 3ivx may well not handle MPEG-4-encoded
VR properly, for whatever reason.
Can you download one of the VR's in question? If so, open it in
Quicktime Player - what info is showing for the video track in Movie
Info? If it shows the 3ivx codec, that may be the culprit.
As for how to fix it... removing the component and then restarting the
Quicktime app you're using should work. If not, you may have to
restart, though that shouldn't be necessary (should it? or is that only
true for adding components?).
