You always learn something . . . I had never realized the QTPlayer.app

Beware. QTPlayer doesn't know who encoded it. He only knows what the
format is ('mp4v'), and he opens that codec and asks for a
user-readable name. If you have 3ivX installed, _all_ your movies
with MPEG4 video will be reported as 3ivX, whether or not 3ivX
actually did the work. They _are_ doing some real hijacking (3ivX
completely disables and replaces Apple's MPEG4 Video codec), but here
they are also hijacking the right to name MPEG4 Video in general.

The previous version appeared to hijack both Sorenson Squeeze and QT
Player Export. I say "appears" since doing a Get Info on the movie
and looking at the video format would always say DiVX even where I
used the Squeeze.
Can anyone with the current version confirm that this apparent
hijacking is still taking place? With the DivX CODECS installed,
encode a movie with Sorenson MP4 and then use QT Player to see what
CODEC is advertised.
