Re: QT compatibility for iPhoto export movie

Hi ya;

Real Time effects (Cross Fade) were introduced in Quicktime 3 and I remember adding them in to our Video Editing app back then. So QuickTime 4 and higher should work fine and you can leave probably them in.

I can always ditch the cross fade track, but I think it looks great.

The files are under 180KB for 30 seconds (256x192@.25fps)

The vids aren't rendered, the individual images are displayed for four
seconds then faded into the next image.

The vids will eventually end up in QT5 compatible instore CD vending
machines and I have no way of testing on these target machines... :(

It's the cross fade I'm concerned about.

I don't know if iPhoto uses the built-in QT transition effects or pre-renders all frames but in both cases you shouldn't have to worry. However if it renders all frames - and in order to get a smooth transition you need a lot of them, like 15 fps - your files will become pretty big.

In that case you would probably be better off using either a motion
video codec like Sorensen or use Liveslideshow
<http://www.liveslideshow.com/> (it takes advantage of QT transition
effects keeping file sizes very compact).
