editing mov file

I have qt .mov files (video&audio) that I need to delete very specific portions of, e.g., at the end. Is there a way to edit these files that gives me more to visualize than trying to adjust the little in/out sliders on the player and press delete (which ends up more or less trial and error, very tidious and often not productive)?
