Re: Core Video/ H.264 Color issues

I'm not convinced this is a CoreVideo issue, as IIRC the problem manifested itself when H.264 first came to Quicktime, which I believe was pre-CoreVideo/Tiger, no?

In my initial round of tests I pretty well recall linking this issue more to display gamma assumptions not matching up with reality than any H/W accel. issue - though admittedly I had never considered H/W acceleration as a factor at all! It could be both, for all I know!

I believe that even before Tiger there may have been hardware acceleration for at least h.264.

Also as far as I understand, gamma shouldn't affect the color... only the brightness. But I may be wrong as well.

Anyway according to all the testing I've done its definitely related to hw acc somehow. I did suspect it was guessing about gamma at first, but the color has its problems on both 1.8 and 2.2 gamma... mac and PC. The only time its fixed is when I play the video with a app that doesn't use hw acc, or on a computer that doesn't support hw acc at all. (Like the g4 mini.)
